Recipe- Thenga Maanga Pattani Sundal

We go to the beach for several reasons. The major one being to eat the yummy, local, street style food. And one of the specialities of Chennai Beaches are it’s sundal. Here’s a recipe of the beach style sundal, which is both tasty and healthy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • White Peas sundal- 1 cup
  • Shredded coconut- As required
  • Raw mango pieces – 1/4 cup
  • Ginger- 1 inch piece
  • Green chilli- 3
  • Curry leaves- 2 sprigs
  • Coriander leaves (Few)
  • For tempering: Mustard seeds, Jeera and Asafoetida
  • Salt for taste

METHOD:. • Soak the peas for 8 hours ( preferably overnight) and pressure cook for 2 whistles. • Grind the ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and coriander leaves to a fine paste without adding water. • Temper the mustard seeds, jeera and asafoetida and add the paste, mix well • Add required salt, and once all these are cooked well, add the cooked peas and mix • Add the raw mango pieces, mix well and turn the stove off. • Finally, add the shredded coconut and mix.

Few tips: •You can add 1 TSP of Lemon juice at the end for a tangy flavor • I’ve added a little red chilli powder for more spice which is optional
